Things to Do with Kids in Virginia Beach

  • Explore the Discovery Garden at the Virginia Aquarium Bring your children’s dreams to life at the Virginia Aquarium, where your admission not only includes a visit with the fish, otters, turtles, and more, but also participation in nature and art activities in the Discovery Garden!

  • Go Hog-Wild at the Bulls and Barrels Beach Rodeo

(April 13-14, 2024) Not only will this exciting competition feature professional barrel racing and bull riding on the beach, but local 4-H clubs have tons of fun activities planned for all ages at this family-friendly event.

  • Pick Your Own Wildflowers Many of the Pungo farms offer pick-your-own wildflowers so you can create the perfect bouquet to bring the joy of spring into your own home.

  • Cast a Line at the Red Drum Rodeo Fishing Tournament (May 29 - June 2, 2024) This annual competition is a chance for professional anglers to compete while middle and high schoolers experience the fun and beauty of being out on the water.   • Beat the Crowds to the Beach No need to wait for tourist season to hit the beach! Enjoy the early sunshine at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront or the calmer sands of Chic’s Beach or Sandbridge as winter rentals go through their spring cleaning before the crowds roll in.

  • Bird-watch at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge The Back Bay Wildlife Refuge is a haven for over 200 species of birds, and spring is the perfect opportunity to witness many of them migrating north.

  • Try Your Hand at Deep-Sea Fishing Rudee Tours offers offshore, nearshore, and inshore fishing expeditions for everyone from the novice to the enthusiast. There are plenty of different touring options - try one out and get in touch with the sea!

  • Boat on Linkhorn Bay Virginia Beach is a fantastic city for boat lovers, and one of our favorite spots to cruise is Linkhorn Bay. Wakeboarding, waterskiing, and tubing are popular pastimes in this area!

  • Become a Muddy Princess (May 19, 2024) This one’s for the ladies who want a “girl’s dirty day out.” The Muddy Princess Mud Run at the VB Sportsplex is full of silly and challenging obstacles, and it’s all about celebrating women in all their glorious forms.

  • Chow Down at the East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic  (April 20, 2024) Get your fill of the local favorite - she-crab soup - and the East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic. Regional restaurants will be vying for “best of” titles, and they want your vote!

  • Taste Seasonal Wines at the VB Winery The Virginia Beach Winery offers special wine tastings each day, as well as special event nights each month. Find a fun opportunity to sample some of the best wine around!


  • Check Out One of Virginia Beach’s Farmer's Markets This Hampton Roads city boasts not one but two excellent Farmers Markets. The VB Farmers Market on Dam Neck Road is open throughout the year with an impressive selection of vendors and food trucks, and the farmer’s market down in Old Beach is within walking distance of the ocean.

  • Eat for a Cause at YSC’s Spring Oyster and Pig Roast (May 18, 2024) Stuff yourself with as much chowder, pork, and oysters as you can - benefits the kids, after all! YSC’s annual Spring Oyster and Pig Roast is happening this April at Camp Pendleton. 

  • Enjoy Mother’s Day Lunch in the Sunshine Treat your mom at one of Virginia Beach’s many hot spots with outdoor seating in that gorgeous spring weather. A few of our favorite spots are The Bee and the Biscuit, Dockside Seafood and Fishing Center, and Pocahontas Pancakes. (P.S. Mother’s Day is May 12th!)

Grab a couple of friends to share a Big Jumbo Sorbet Mimosa - a giant glass accompanied by two bottles of champagne and your choice of sorbet.
